About

Stay a while and listen.

This is Ian Glidewell.  This is me.  I know what you’re thinking: What a handsome guy.  It’s okay, there’s no need to be shy.  I feel it between us too.  If I’m not what you’re looking for, then I’m afraid to tell you that your princess is in another castle.

Would you kindly stay a bit longer?  I’d like to tell you a bit more about myself.

I am a big thinker and a bit of a risk taker.  I was born in Georgia and raised on the internet, and when I graduated from high school, I moved across the country to seek a better life.  ”There’s no stopping this train we’re on,” I told myself in the plural third-person.  Twenty-two hours on a train later, I arrived to meet up with a pretty awesome person I met on the internet, then we got married, had a kid and drove each other absolutely insane.  That’s the short version.  Got it memorized?

Good.

I’m a (mostly) self-taught IT generalist; a jack of all trades and master of none. I work for a privately owned company where I use my diverse set of skills to provide first-level diagnostics(read: I work at a help desk.)  Being raised on the internet has its advantages, such as a natural curiosity towards the occupations of your parents.  My mother was a dial-up modem and my dad was a bit of celebrity.  TCP/IP, ever heard of him?  No?  That’s alright.

After a rough falling out between my parents, my dad had a few flings with some DSL modems before finally settling down with a nice cable woman.  She has her moments, like when she ups and leaves without warning, but she’s mostly a good step mom. She helped me get connected to a much, much larger community than I have ever been before where I could talk to people exactly like me. Well, maybe not exactly like me.  I fell in love, and am still in love, with the people I have met.

Don’t let my wife know I’m having an affair, okay? Thanks, pally.

I spent a few years after high school to get to understand myself more. I grew up knowing that I was not responsible or mature enough to be able to work hard and succeed in school.  I feel that after holding a steady job in a challenging career and being a father wasn’t enough of a sign that I should return, nothing would be.  After doing some calibrations and a barrel roll I became a student at Wilmington University in Wilmington, Delaware.  College isn’t for most, but I have a family to support and an entire community I want to make waves in.

The community is important to me, possibly the single source of my passions.  Thus far, I have only contributed my writing to the community, but I want it to be so much more.  My inability to do anything else to contribute is merely a setback.  Right now, I write articles about things my community is interested in.  Soon I will be creating things that the community will be talking about, for better or worse.  Whichever the case, I know that one day I will be making a note here: “Huge success.”   In the meantime, I’ll be keeping this website up-and-running to detail my exploits, talk about the community I adore, and discuss the on-goings of my life, college or otherwise.

Oh.  Did I mention that I like video games?  That’s kinda important.
